Fans Get Chance To Meet Hoops Teams
PROVO -- BYU fans will have an opportunity to meet this year's men's and women's basketball teams this Saturday at the University Mall in Orem.
Both teams will be at the University Mall from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Fans are encouraged to come meet, converse, and take pictures with the players. Posters and schedule cards will be available as well as ticket information.
"We're excited for the opportunity to take the teams to the fans. This event provides an opportunity for the fans to get to know our outstanding student-athletes and coaches in a relaxed, informal environment," said Tony Jewkes, BYU athletic marketing director. "We anticipate an exciting and fun basketball season from both of these programs."
This is the first time this season the public will have the opportunity to interact with the basketball teams. Several prizes will also be given away during the two-hour event.
The BYU men's team owns the nation's longest home winning streak at 36 straight wins and boasts the most depth and talent of any team under coach Steve Cleveland. In addition to returning players like starters Travis Hansen, Mark Bigelow and Jared Jensen, the team includes several talented newcomers, including center Rafael Araujo and guards Kevin Woodberry and Luiz Lemes. The men's Varsity Preview will be on Nov. 1, followed by two exhibitions on Nov. 5 and Nov. 13 prior to the first regular season home game on Nov. 30 against Rice.
The Cougar women's team was recently picked to win the MWC regular season crown and is coming off a "Sweet Sixteen" finish in last year's NCAA tournament. The women open the year hosting the University of Texas on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
