Hansen's Draft Chances Good after Chicago Camp

After completing the Chicago Pre-Draft Camp, former BYU guard Travis Hansen is considered among the players with a good chance of being selected in the June 26 NBA Draft in New York City.

Conducted June 3-6 at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, the camp provided hundreds of NBA executives, general managers, coaches and scouts the opportunity to evaluate players in preparation for the upcoming draft.

The athletic Hansen impressed during the week with his hard work and overall contributions. He averaged 9.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals in three games as his team finished with a 2-1 record.

Hansen's team won its first two games with a starting lineup of Hansen and Troy Bell of Boston College on the guardline, Luke Walton of Arizona and Uche Nsonwu-Amadi of Wyoming as the forwards and Marvin Stone of Louisville at center. In the two wins (84-74 and 96-92), Hansen averaged 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while shooting 47 percent from the floor, including 67 percent (2-of-3) from behind the NBA three-point arc.

In the third-game loss, Hansen and the previous starting five came off the bench. Hansen's team got down early and never led but the game-one and game-two starters still logged significant time while trimming a 21-point deficit before the eventual 81-70 defeat. Hansen attempted only one trey, a miss, but had a rough shooting day inside the arc, going 2-for-13 in 21 minutes. Despite his troubles finding the hoop, Hansen made a solid overall contribution with 5 points, 7 rebounds (second to Nsonwu-Amadi's 14), 3 assists (sharing team-high honors) and a team-leading 3 steals (sharing game-high honors).

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, Hansen, Bell, Walton, Duke's Dahntay Jones, North Dakota's Jerome Beasley and Kentucky's Keith Bogans all made strong cases during the camp to be selected in the first round. Katz singled out Hansen as the camp's hardest worker while Frank Burlison of FOXSports considered Hansen one of the most athletic guards at the camp.

Since a strong showing at the Portsmouth Invitational in April, Hansen has continued to impress with his shooting range and overall abilities as a defender and rebounder during private workouts with NBA teams.
