COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Three members of the BYU men's basketball team earned Academic All-Mountain West honors for the 2002-03 season.

BYU led the MWC by having 125 student-athletes named Academic All-MWC out of the 622 honored for the 2003 spring season.

To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at BYU while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

Representing the Cougar squad with academic citations were sophomores John Allen, Terry Nashif and Jared Jensen.

Allen, a guard from Houston, Texas, played in 25 games for the Cougars and gave the team a spark off the bench. From behind the 3-point arc Allen shot a team-high .563 percent for the season. Allen also contributed to the Cougars by going 19-20 from the free throw line, holding a team-high .950 percent from the line.

Nashif, a guard from Vancouver, Washington, started in six games and played in all 32 games for the Cougars. Nashif led the league in assist/turnover ratio during conference play. At the basketball awards banquet, Nashif earned the Academic Award for having the highest GPA on the men's basketball team.

Jensen, a Utah native, started in 25 of 32 games for the Cougars. Playing the forward and center position, Jensen shot a team-high .574 from the floor and .802 from the free throw line. Jensen was named Honorable Mention All-Conference this season after his contributions. This was Jensen's second Academic All-MWC award.

All three Cougars will return to the lineup next season and are expected to make solid contributions on and off the court.
