Richards named MPSF/TURBO Male Athlete of the Week
PROVO, Utah – BYU swimmer Stephen Richards was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/TURBO Male Athlete of the Week for his performance against Denver last weekend.
“Stephen had a great meet last weekend and really swam well,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “He has been training very hard since returning from his mission, this is well deserved.”
Richards earned three top-five finishes against Denver including second in the 200 IM (1:54.02), fourth in the 200 back (1:53.44) and fifth in the 100 back (52.55).
The sophomore from McLean, Va., is competing in his first season after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his freshman debut, Richards received the Academic All-Conference award as well as the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete award. He also competed in all seven dual meets for the Cougars and the MWC where he received all-conference honors in the 400 IM.
Richards is back in action Friday night against Utah in the Deseret First Duel meet.
