PROVO, Utah --  BYU sophomore swimmer Jake Taylor was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/TUBRO Male Athlete of the Week for his strong  performance against Utah last weekend.

“I think it’s very well deserved,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “He’s coming along nicely from his mission. He competed at NCAA Championships his freshman year and we hope that he can compete there for us again this year.”

Taylor finished in the top three in three events against the Utes. He took first place in the 100 back (48.94), second in the 200 back (1:49.94) and third in the 50 free (21.10).  Taylor also contributed to the second-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:02.38) with a split-time of 44.90.

Taylor returned this summer from serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his freshman debut, he competed in all seven dual events for the Cougars and recorded 28 first-place finishes during the season. He placed first in four events at the Mountain West Conference championships for which he received all-conference recognition.

Taylor next competes with the men’s swimming team Saturday against Seattle.
