BYU Men Lead After First Day at MWC Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Two-time defending conference champion BYU men's team leads the men's field with 162 poinst after day one at the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Oklahoma City Community College. The two-time defending women's team is in third place with 86 points behind Colorado State and Air Force.

The Cougars took the lead from UNLV placing the top four positions in the men's 1-meter diving competition. The men placed five out of the top six spots. All-American Justin Wilcock totaled 342.15 to lead the field. Wilcock won his second straight MWC men's 1-meter diving crown.

The BYU men's 800 free relay came in first with a time of 6:44.07.

According to the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA), the BYU men's team placed No. 5 in the nation for their academics. The Cougars came in first place last season.

Day two events begin Thursday with prelims starting at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
