Men Defeat Iowa in Hawaii, Einfeldt Wins at Arizona

The men's swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet against the University of Iowa on January 9, during their recent trip to Hawaii. The men won nine of 13 events with a final score of 145-96. The win improves the team's record to 4-1 on the season in dual-meet action.

Junior Jeff Mason won the 200 free with a time of 1:41.65. Mason also won the 100 free with a time of 46.24. Billy Betz won the 50 free with a time of 20.98 followed by teammate Brian Sorensen.

Junior Gary Tan won the 200 I.M. with a time of 1:51.72 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 1.52.26. Chris Johnson won the 500 free with a time of 4:43.17.

For the divers, two-time All-American Aaron Russell won the 1-meter event with a score of 339.20. Russell also placed second on the 3-meter event with a score of 550.50, just one point behind first place.

"I thought the team swam very well after competing in the Rainbow Invitational," said men's head swim coach Tim Powers. "We look forward to our next road meet at Air Force on January 24."

At the Arizona Invite last weekend, Kelli Einfeldt won the 3-meter event with a score of 502.65. Einfeldt also placed third in the 1-meter event, posting a 249.05.

"I thought that Einfeldt dove sensational this weekend," said head diving coach Keith Russell. "Aaron Russell also did well in the 1-meter event, placing less than one point behind one of the best divers in the country (Arizona'a Omar Ojeda)."

Einfeldt and the women's squad will host two conference foes this weekend at the Richards Building Pool starting with Colorado State on Friday at 6 p.m. New Mexico will follow on Saturday at noon.
