BYU's Lietz Honored as MWC Swimmer of the Week
PROVO -- BYU swimmer Heidi Lietz was honored as the Mountain West Conference female swimmer of the week Wednesday.
Lietz, a sophomore from Walnut Creek, Calif., won all 11 events she competed in during three days of competition in New Mexico. In a dual meet against New Mexico, Northern Arizona and Houston, Nov. 9, Lietz finished first in the 50 freestyle (23.81) and the 100 butterfly (58.13), and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:48.28). Lietz dominated the competition, Nov. 10-11, at the Lobo Invitational, finishing first in the 50 free (24.03), 100 free (51.82), 200 free (1:55.69) and 100 fly (57.89). She also led the relay teams to first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:48.15), 400 medley relay (3:54.88), 200 free relay (1:37.83) and 400 free relay (3:36.25). Her times of 23.81 in the 50 free and 51.82 in the 100 free currently lead the conference.
Lietz led the BYU women's team to dual meet wins over New Mexico, Northern Arizona and Houston, and to a first-place finish at the Lobo Invitational over New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Houston, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado and North Texas. The men's and women's swimming teams have the week off while the men's and women's diving teams are in Los Angeles participating in the USC Diving Invitational.
