Swimming and Diving earn 39 combined Academic All-MWC honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The men's and women's swimming and diving teams had 39 student-athletes named Academic All-MWC for the 2002-03 season.

BYU led the Mountain West Conference having 125 student-athletes named Academic All-Mountain West out of the 622 honored during the spring semester.

To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at BYU while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

Twenty athletes were named from the men's swimming and diving team and 19 were named from the women's team.

The Cougar men finished No. 2 academically in the nation with a team GPA of 3.35. It is the third time in five years that the Cougars have finished in the top five, including a No. 1 finish in 2000.

The women's team has managed to earn CSCAA All-American Academic Team honors every year but twice since 1986.
