Cougars Swim Past Lobos

PROVO -- The BYU women's swimming and diving team rebounded from a loss the previous night to Colorado State to defeat New Mexico, 174-125, Saturday afternoon at the Richards Building pool.

Coach Stan Crump said he was pleased with his team's ability to move on from last night's loss and swim well against the Lobos.

After losing a number of close races last night, BYU came out and swam with determination, winning nine events in the meet.

Crump said he was impressed with the performance of Brittany Davis who won two events, the 200 free (1:55.59) and 200 back (2:07.43) and swam on the first place 200 free relay team (1:38.41).

Senior Lyndi Juvan won the first dual meet race of her collegiate career with her victory in the 100 fly, following her teammate Nikki Xanthos who won the first race of her collegiate career last night against the Rams. Xanthos also placed first in the 100 breast against the Lobos, finishing in a time of 1:05.79.

The victory improves the Cougars dual meet record in conference to 2-2. BYU will compete in two meets next week against Air Force and Wyoming before returning home to conclude its MWC schedule against Utah on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
