Four-Time All-American Ends Career at NCAA Championships

BATON ROUGE -- After clearing the opening height (16-10.75) on his third and final attempt, BYU senior Jeff Hansen failed to clear the next heeight (17-04.50) and did not place in the pole vault on Friday. After winning the 2002 NCAA Indoor National Championship earlier this season, Hansen finishes his career at BYU as a four-time All-American.

"We're disappointed Jeff wasn't able to place tonight," BYU head coach Mark Robison said. "After winning the indoor championships, there was a lot of pressure on him. He's had a rough outdoor season. I'm extremely proud of what Jeff has done over his career. His performance today does not take away from an outstanding career."

On Saturday, the final day of competition at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, BYU freshman Kassi Andersen will compete in the 1,500-meter finals, while another freshman teammate, Michaela Mannova, will look to pick up valuable team points for the Cougars in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mannova will enter tomorrow's race with the second highest qualifying time in the event.
