Hedengren Named To Verizon Academic All-America District VIII First Team
PROVO, Utah (May 23, 2002) BYU senior John Hedengren was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America District VIII Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team today.
Hedengren, an All-American in cross country, will be one of 20 student-athletes who will represent the district on the Verizon Academic All-America ballot. Hedengren, from Richland, Wash., is a four-time Academic All-American and maintains a 3.95 GPA in Chemical Engineering.
To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be in his second year of participation at the school and be an important contributor to his team. The team is selected by voting among members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America in the district, which is made up of schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
