Five National Marks Turned In On Day Three of Robison Invitational

PROVO -- Five athletes turned in national qualifying marks on the third day of competition at the Clarence Robison Invitational, including three BYU athletes.

Freshman All-American Lindsey Steele cleared 5-10.50 (1.79m) to earn a provisional NCAA mark and win the high jump title. Steele was joined by teammate Nikki Hughes, who had a provisional mark of 20-05.00 (6.22m) to finish second in the long jump.

A second Cougar had a provisional qualifying mark in the long jump, this time on the men's side. Aron Szmuda had a leap of 25-07.25 (7.80m) to win the men's long jump crown and round out the Cougars with national qualifying marks on day three of the Robison Invitational.

The three Cougars were joined by Justin St. Clair of Boise State, who had a provisional throw of 231-01 (70.43) to win the javelin. The University of Nevada's Jenni Ashcroft cleared a height of 13-03.75 (4.06m)to provisionally qualify for nationals and win the women's open section of the pole vault.

The Robison Invitational concludes tomorrow, with field events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and running events scheduled to start at noon. Admission to the meet is free.
