Clifford Named MWC Indoor Track Athlete of Week

PROVO, Utah (Feb. 21, 2002) BYU freshman high jumper Candace Clifford was named this week's Mountain West Conference women's indoor track athlete of the week for her performance last weekend at the Air Force Open.

Clifford won the Air Force Open high jump title with a leap of 5-10.00 (1.80m), defeating teammate Lindsey Steele, who cleared a height of 5-07.00 to finish second. The athlete of the week award is the first of Clifford's BYU career and marks the first award the Cougars have received in the 2002 season.

Clifford currently ranks sClifford won the high jump event at the Air Force Open to garner her first career athlete of the week award. The Glendale, Ariz. product jumped 5'-10" (1.78m), an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, to claim the title. Currently, Clifford's season-best mark of 5'-11" (1.80m) is eighth best in the nation.
