Nine Cougars Earn USTCA All-Academic Honors
PROVO, Utah (Sept. 18, 2001) The United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) named nine BYU track and field athletes to its list of all-academic honorees for the 2001 season of outdoor track and field.
The individual honorees for the Cougars were Jeff Hansen, Holly Haguewood, Tara Haynes, Maret Komarova, Tara Northcutt, Sharolyn Shields and Lindsey Thomsen.
To qualify for USTCA all-academic honors, an individual must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.250 and have competed in their NCAA division's outdoor track and field championship.
Along with the individual honors, both men's and women's track received team all-academic honors for outdoor track and field. The BYU men's team carried an average GPA of 3.210 and was the only Division I men's team to receive the honor. The women's team had a team GPA of 3.370, ranking third in Division I for cumulative team GPA behind Oral Roberts (3.560) and Missouri (3.449).
Teams eligible to receive the honor must have at least 14 athletes who competed in the 2001 outdoor season and the team must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.100 as a team.
