Jackson Earns Spot on National Team

PROVO -- Elizabeth Jackson, who won the NCAA 3,000-Meter Steeplechase Title earlier this month, finished second at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Eugene, Ore. The second-place finish gives Jackson a spot on the USA National Track and Field Team, which will travel to the Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia, on Sept. 4-7.

Jackson was defeated by Lisa Nye, who broke Jackson's American record in the steeplechase to win the event. Nye finished the race in 9 minutes 49.41 seconds, breaking Jackson's mark of 9:49.73. Jackson was not far behind, finishing in a time of 9:49.94.

Nan Evans, who returns to BYU next season, ran a strong race to finish fourth with a time of 10:05.46. Former BYU runner Kara Ormond also competed in the event, finishing in 10:06.78 for a sixth-place finish.

Jackson was the lone BYU athlete to qualify for the USA National Team.
