Hedengren Named to Verizon Spring Academic All-America First Team

PROVO -- John Hedengren has been named to the Verizon Spring Academic All-America First Team for track and field. Hedengren competes in distance events on the BYU men's track and field team and also runs on the BYU men's cross country team.

The Academic All-America citation is the third such award Hedengren has received as a member of the track team. He was named to the Academic All-America Third Team after the 1999 track and field season and was named to the Academic All-America Second Team at the conclusion of the 2000 track and field season.

In addition to the three Academic All-America citations Hedengren has received for track, he was also named to the Verizon Academic All-America First Team for the 2000 cross country season. Hedengren also earned an athletic All-America citation for cross country at the 2000 NCAA Championships.

Hedengren, a junior from Richland, Wash. majoring in Chemical Engineering, maintains a 3.96 GPA through his BYU career.
