Northcutt Named Conference Athlete of the Week
Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Colorado State senior Bryan Berryhill and BYU senior Tara Northcutt were named Mountain West Conference Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Berryhill, a native of Central Point, Ore. (Crater HS), clocked this season's fastest time in the nation in the 1,500 meters last week at the prestigious Stanford Invitational with a time of 3-minutes, 39.08-seconds. His time is the only NCAA automatic qualifying mark recorded this season. A nine-time All-American, Berryhill set the MWC outdoor record in the 1,500 meters last year with a time of 3:40.37.
Northcutt, of Provo, Utah (Provo HS), placed first among collegiate athletes and third overall in the 10,000 meters last week at the Stanford Invitational. She beat the NCAA automatic qualifying mark (34:10) by more than 40 seconds with her time of 33:27.59. Northcutt, who has the best time in the 10,000 meters in the MWC this season, missed the conference record in the event by just over six seconds.
Upcoming Schedule (April 6-8)
Air Force, BYU, New Mexico and Wyoming travel to the Texas Relays in Austin. Colorado State travels to the Northern Colorado Open in Greeley and Utah travels to Ogden for the Weber State Invitational. BYU and UNLV host invitationals this week, and San Diego State is idle.
