Bolm Sets Meet Record at Air Force
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Senior All-American Kirsten Bolm set a new meet record in the long jump with a leap of 20'09.00" (6.32m) at the Air Force Open Saturday. Bolm led a handful of athletes from the BYU women's track team who competed in the meet.
In addition to her first-place finish in the long jump, Bolm also captured second place in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 8.37 seconds. Bolm was the lone runner for the Cougars, who had seven other athletes competing in the field events.
Senior All-American Jeana Bingham finished second in the high jump with season-best of 6'00.75". An NCAA provisional qualifier, her mark is just one-half inch shy of the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. Senior M.E. Clayton also recorded a second-place finish with a leap of 40'01.50" (12.23m) in the triple jump. In the pole vault, freshman Melissa Coombs placed fifth with a mark of 11'05.75" (3.50m), and teammate Melissa Dyer, also a freshman, was 11th with a vault of 9'06.25" (2.90m). In the throws, Cathy Fuailemma finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 56'05.75" (17.21m), and teammate Becky Beachler finished 12th with a throw of 46'06.00" (14.17m). In the shot put, Beachler recorded a sixth-place finish with a put of 47'09.00" (14.55m), while Fuailemma finished in 11th place with a put of 45'05.75" (13.86m). Analee Carter took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5'07.00" (1.70m).
The Cougars will now prepare for the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships which will be held at Air Force Feb. 22-24.
