Tracksters Earn All-American Honors

PROVO, Utah (March, 18, 2003) -- Seven BYU track and field athletes earned All-American honors for their performances at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last week in Fayetteville, Ark.

The men's team had three athletes earn All-American citations. Sophomore Trent Powell, from Mesa, Ariz., placed third in the pole vault with a height of 17-07.75 (5.38m). Sophomore Kip Kangogo, a native of Kabarnet, Kenya, placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 7:59.16. Nate Robison, a sophomore from Provo, Utah, placed 10th in the mile run with a time of 4:08.20. It was the first All-American honors for all of the men's athletes.

Five athletes on the women's team received six All-American citations. Michaela Mannova, a junior from the Czech Republic, placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:11.61, setting a new school record. Senior Jamie Cottle, from Howell, Mich., ran the mile in a time of 4:43.40 to take sixth place.

The distance medley team placed second at nationals with a school-record time of 11:06.81. In the relay, Jennifer Rockwell, a sophomore from Tooele, Utah, ran the 400-meter split in 54.5. Junior Aneta Lemiesz, from Poland, ran the 800-meter split in 2:06.5. Michaela Mannova ran the mile split in 4:40, and sophomore Kassi Andersen, from Provo, Utah, ran the 1,200-meter split in 3:25.

Cottle is now a two-time All-American, Andersen is a three-time All-American and Mannova is an eight-time All-American.
