Sander named MPSF Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah – Freshman outside hitter Brenden Sander was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, after leading No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball to a pair of upset wins against No. 1 Hawai’I last week. 

In the first match on Friday, Sander collected a team-high 14 kills on a .423 clip while adding two service aces, a career-high five blocks and three digs. The following night, Sander contributed double-digit kills again with a career high of 16 in addition to 10 digs (also a career high) for his first career double-double as well as his first-ever solo block. For the week, Sander collected 30 kills on a .400 clip to go along with 13 digs and seven blocks for a 4.06 points per set average. 

Additionally, Sander was named National Freshman of the Week Monday by Off the Block.

This is the first MPSF and Off the Block honor for Sander.

With its two wins over Hawai'i, BYU secured the No. 5 seed for the conference tournament. Sander and the Cougars will play at No. 4 seed USC Saturday night in an MPSF quarterfinals matchup.
