Four Cougars honored as AVCA All-Americans

PROVO, Utah—The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named four BYU men's volleyball players to its All-America lists, the organization announced Monday. 

Senior outside hitter Jake Langlois collected First-Team All-America honors, while juniors Leo Durkin, Price Jarman and Brenden Sander received All-America Honorable Mention accolades.

Langlois, from San Jose, California, receives All-America honors for the second time in his career. Langlois has contributed 3.83 kills per set, a team-high 329 kills, a .357 hitting percentage while chipping in 1.38 digs per set and 0.65 blocks per set. As a junior, he was named a Second-Team All-American.

Durkin, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, collects Honorable Mention accolades for the second time in his career. He set the Cougars this year to a .319 team hitting percentage, while adding 10.55 assists per set. Additionally, he contributed 1.20 digs per set and 0.64 blocks per set. Durkin also received Honorable Mention honors last year as a sophomore.

Jarman, also from Las Vegas, Nevada, picks up All-America honors for the first time in his career. The middle blocker led the team in blocks per set (0.96) while contributing 1.59 kills per set on a team-high .466 clip.

Sander, from Huntington Beach, California, receives All-America accolades for the second time of his BYU career. This season, the outside hitter helped BYU with 2.87 kills per set while hitting a .276 percentage and adding 1.03 digs per set and 0.61 blocks per set. As a sophomore, he was named an AVCA First-Team All-American.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation had a nation-high 13 All-America citations this season, with seven first-teamers and six second-teamers.

The 2017 selections were made by the AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Dan Friend (Lewis); Jay Hosack (George Mason), Danny Goncalves (NJIT), Mike Rumbaugh (Saint Francis), Ryan Perotte (Fort Wayne), Mark Hulse (Loyola-Chicago), Alan Knipe (Long Beach State), Charlie Wade (Hawai’i), Jeff Nygaard (USC), David Heller (Mount Olive), Brandon Skweres (Limestone), Ryan Booher (King).
