Acosta Named MPSF Player of the Week

PROVO -- After leading BYU to back-to-back, three-game victories of No. 5 UC Santa Barbara last weekend, BYU senior Joaquin Acosta was named the Molten MPSF Player of the Week.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Acosta led the Cougars with 36 kills over six games, averaging 6.0 kills per game. The 6-foot-5 outside hitter posted a blistering .555 average, connecting on 36-of-53 attempts. Acosta was also credited with seven blocks, six digs and had one ace against the Gauchos.

Acosta ranks second on the BYU roster behind All-American Mike Wall with 357 kills on the season and is hitting .395 over 84 games.

A National Player-of-the-Year and All-America candidate himself, Acosta has helped BYU post eight straight victories, including a 24-2 single-game mark over that span. BYU will conclude the regular season next week, playing four tough matches in a five-day period. The Cougars will travel to UC San Diego on Tuesday-Wednesday, April 9-10, followed by back-to-back matches at No. 3 Hawaii on Friday-Saturday, April 12-13.
