Cougars Defeat UVSC in Volleyball Exhibition
OREM -- The BYU men's volleyball team opened the 2001 season with a four-game exhibition match in front of a capacity crowd at UVSC's Activities Center on Friday, defeating the Wolverines, 30-26, 30-23, 30-23, 33-31.
BYU used two different lineups, giving BYU head coach Carl McGown a chance to evaluate his team in a competitive situation.
"We wanted to see these guy compete and be able to make some comparisons," McGown said. "After we finished the first three games, we played another game in order for us to get a good look at our team. We wanted to go out and play hard and compete. And I think we did that."
The Cougars will return to action Saturday evening in an intra-squad scrimmage. The annual Blue-White Game will begin at 7 p.m. (MST) in the Smith Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
