Bull earns WCC Pitcher of the Week

PROVO, Utah – The West Coast Conference today announced sophomore McKenna Bull as its Pitcher of the Week for her role in BYU’s four wins last weekend at the Wilson/DeMarini Desert Classic.

Bull went 4-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 20 strikeouts to lead the Cougars (6-4) to a 4-1 record last weekend in Las Vegas. The sophomore gave up 18 hits through 19.2 innings with only six earned runs. She held batters to a lowly .188 average while upping her record to 6-1 on the season.

She began the week allowing three hits while striking out seven in 3.1 innings of relief, picking up the win in the 5-4 BYU walk-off victory over Hawaii Thursday evening.

On Friday she returned to the circle where she faced Northwestern, the team that ended the 2014 season for the Cougars in the NCAA tournament regional.

Wildcat pitcher Kirsten Wood was throwing a no-hitter through five innings, until BYU cashed in five runs off six hits in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-1 win Friday. Bull shut down Northwestern’s effort, limiting the opposition to only two hits and one run in seven innings.  In game two Friday, Bull turned around and tossed 5.1 innings against UNLV as the Cougars defeated the Rebels 6-5.

Picking up her sixth win on the season, she allowed just one hit and recorded three strikeouts in four innings of BYU’s 9-0 victory over UTEP Saturday. The Pitcher of the Week honor is her third career weekly award.

BYU heads out this weekend to Southern California for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where the Cougars face UC Santa Barbara, Maryland, Texas A&M, Indiana and Oregon State Thursday through Saturday.
