BYU wins doubleheader against SUU and Boise State in fall exhibition
PROVO, Utah – BYU softball went 2-0 in its scrimmages at home on Saturday, winning 1-0 against Southern Utah and 10-3 vs. Boise State.
“Arianna Paulson pitched an excellent game against Southern Utah, and we played great defense behind her,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “Our offense came alive in the second game. We pitched well, played good defense, and had timely hitting. It was a good close to the home fall schedule.”
The first scrimmage against Southern Utah was a low-scoring game. The Cougars won the game 1-0, led by strong pitching from Arianna Paulson. The lone run for BYU was scored by Coco Tauali’i off of a squeeze bunt by Caitlyn Larsen.
Against Boise State, BYU scored four runs in the first and fifth innings along with a pair of runs in the second to win 10-3. The scoring was spread out among the Cougars. The runners took advantage of a couple of errors by the Broncos to score three runs in the game. Larsen hit a single for two RBI in the bottom of the fifth.
McKenna Bull started off pitching against the Broncos, giving up just a couple of runs, and Olivia Sanchez gave up one run as she closed out the game.
BYU takes its exhibition schedule on the road next week to Las Vegas. The Cougars will face the UNLV Rebels on Saturday, Oct. 24 in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. MDT. Fans in the Las Vegas area are welcome to attend.
