No. 11 Texas gives BYU its second loss at Tennessee Invite
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – BYU softball suffered a 14-0 shutout against No. 11 Texas on Friday during the second day of the Tennessee Invitational.

The Longhorns (23-5, 0-0) took an early lead and built their momentum with 15 hits throughout the game while holding BYU to only three hits on the day. Taylei Williams went two for two at the plate for the Cougars (10-13, 0-0) while Ashley Godfrey and Alyssa Podhurcak also tallied hits in the game.
The Longhorns started their scoring when the lead-off hitter blasted a homer on the second pitch of the day. The Cougars tried to rally when Williams was hit by a pitch before Godfrey reached base with a single to the shortstop. But the Cougar runners were left stranded as the next two batters struck out followed by a groundout to end the inning with Texas up 1-0.
The second and third innings were more successful for the Longhorns as they tacked on three more runs in each innings. Williams again got on base and into scoring position, doubling in the bottom of the third. She then stole third but couldn’t make it home as BYU recorded three outs.
The top of the fourth resulted in more scoring for Texas as it tallying six more runs and the Cougars were unable to answer back. In the top of the fifth, the Longhorns sent another one over the fence to make the score 14-0.
After the bottom of the fifth inning, the NCAA eight-rule run was used and the game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning 14-0.
The Cougars finish out the Tennessee Invitational on Saturday with rematch games against No. 6 Tennessee at 12 p.m. and No. 11 Texas at 2:30 p.m. ET.
