Home Opener Wednesday Against UVSC
PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team will host a double-header against UVSC in their home opener Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 2 p.m. The Cougars will also host a double-header against in-state rival Southern Utah Saturday, Mar. 16 at 1 p.m. at Gail Miller Field.
"We are excited to play in front of our home fans after spending the first 26 games on the road," said head coach Mary Kay Amicone.
The Cougars played many of their home games last season at UVSC while awaiting the completion of Gail MIller Field. The Wolverines are the 2000 NJCAA National Champions and are used to playing against top competition. Many of BYU recruits in the first years transferred from the Orem campus.
BYU defeated Southern Utah 10-1 in their season opener in St. George as part of a tournament hosted by the Thunderbirds. The Cougars look forward to a rematch.
All-American Oli Keohohou leads the team in home runs with 12. She also leads the team in batting average, slugging percentage, and walks. Captain Brooke Cadiente leads the team in RBI. Cynthia Fallowfield leads a group of young pitchers with a record of 8-4.
Ticket prices are five dollars for general admission, three dollars for students, faculty, and senior citizens. Cougar Club members and All-Sport Passes get in free with their cards. There is a group rate of 20 dollars for any group that goes together.
