Keohohou Leads Three Cougars Selected to West All-Region

PROVO -- Junior Oli Keohohou was named to the West All-Region First-team for the third consecutive season. Sophomore catcher Lauren Watson and freshman outfielder Ianeta Lei joined Keohohou on the West All-Region team as second-team selections, the first time honored for both players.

This marks the second time in the four-year history of the program that BYU had three players selected to All-Region. In 2001, Keohohou along with Brooke Cadiente and Liz Boydston represented the Cougars.

As the 2003 Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year, Keohohou led the conference in virtually every batting category. Keohohou led the league with her .426 batting average (21st in the nation) and was second in the nation in home runs with 20 (0.38 per game) behind Arizona's Lovie Jung. She tallied 58 runs, 55 hits, 47 RBI, 131 total bases and had an amazing 1.016 slugging percentage.

Watson and Lei were both All-MWC selections for the first time in their careers. Watson compiled a .379 batting average, 10 home runs, 66 hits and 42 runs scored. A native of Castaic, Calif., she was also named to the MWC All-Tournament team.

Lei, a freshman slugger from Hawaii, compiled a .346 batting average, 53 hits, and seven home runs. Lei finished the season strong with three home runs in the last week of regular season play and several key hits during the MWC Tournament.

BYU finished the season ranked eighth in the nation in batting average with .304 and 10th in runs per game at 5.62. The Cougars also finished the season with its highest winning percentage at 36-17 but did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

All-America selections should be named later in the month.
