BYU women take on in-state rival Utah State in Logan Tuesday

PROVO, Utah — BYU (2-1) starts a two-week, six-game road swing beginning with a game at in-state rival Utah State.  The Cougars and Aggies (2-1) battle in Logan on Tuesday, Nov. 20 in a 7 p.m. MST tip off.  A live video stream will be available on the Mountain West Network (MWN).

ABOUT BYU

  • The Cougars are now 2-1 on the year after an 80-65 home win over Eastern Washington.
  • With three games under its belt, BYU is shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from the 3-point line and 74.4 percent when shooting from the free throw line.
  • Three players are scoring in double figures for the Cougars, led by 15.0 points a game from freshman Shaylee Gonzales. Junior guard Brenna Chase follows putting up 14.3 points a contest. Sophomore Paisley Johnson rounds out the double-digit scoring with her 14.0 points.
  • Johnson also leads the way in rebounding with an 8.3 average; in assists, Chase tops the stat sheet dishing out 7.3 assists per game; Gonzales and Chase get 2.3 steals per contest.
  • BYU was selected to finish third in the 2018-19 West Coast Conference race.
  • Junior Brenna Chase and sophomore Sara Hamson were named to the Preseason ALL-WCC Team.
  • The team enters the season with 11 underclassmen and just two returning starters.

ABOUT UTAH STATE

  • Utah State has compiled a 2-1 record heading into Tuesday’s game.  The Aggies beat Washington State and Northern New Mexico College before losing to No. 3 Oregon.
  • USU returns all five starters from last year’s team that went 7-23, 5-13 for a ninth-place finish in the Mountain West Conference (MWC).
  • Utah State was picked to finish eighth in the MWC this year.
  • After three games played, the Aggies are averaging 78.7 points and 37.0 rebounds a game. The team is shooting 46.4 percent from the field, 86.2 percent when shooting from the charity stripe and 31.5 percent from the 3-point line.

After the game in Logan, the Cougar women head to San Diego to compete in San Diego State’s Thanksgiving Classic where they will play TCU on Friday, Nov. 23 and Cal Baptist on Saturday, Nov. 24.
