BYU plays Montana State in home opener Thursday

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s basketball plays in the Marriott Center for the first time this season on Thursday, Dec. 10, against Montana State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST and the game will be streamed live on the BYUtv App.

  • BYU is coming off a convincing 87-66 win over in-state rival Utah State on the road in their first of three games this week, improving its record to 2-1 on the year
  • Three Cougars are averaging double figures in scoring: sophomore guard Shaylee Gonzales (20.7 ppg), sophomore forward Lauren Gustin (13.3) and senior guard Paisley Johnson Harding (12.0)
  • In addition to leading the team in scoring, Gonzales is also averaging a team-high 2.3 spg
  • The team's leading rebounder is sohomore forward Lauren Gustin (13.7 rpg); Gustin also leads the team in assists, averaging 3 apg
  • BYU was picked to finish second in the 2020-21 West Coast Conference Preseason Poll after tying for second in the WCC regular season standings last season. BYU finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 13-5 record in WCC play and a 18-11 record overall
  • Three Cougars were selected to the 2020-21 Preseason All-WCC Team: Gonzales, Harding and senior center Sara Hamson. Harding was named to the All-WCC First Team last season while Hamson is the reigning WCC Defensive Player of the Year

ABOUT MONTANA STATE

  • After having its season-opener against South Dakota canceled due to COVID-19, Montana State beat North Dakota 84-72 on Dec. 6 to move to 1-0 on the year
  • Senior guard Tori Martell led the Bobcats with 26 points, including eight 3-pointers, against North Dakota. Martell was the 2019-20 Big Sky Conference Top Reserve of the Year
  • Sophomore guard Darian White had 22 points, six assists and five rebounds versus North Dakota
  • White was selected to the 2020-21 Preseason All-Big Sky Team after being named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year last season
  • Montana State head coach Tricia Binford is in her 16th season with the Bobcat program and has accumulated a 253-202 record thus far
