Gneiting Resigns To Pursue Other Professional Endeavors

PROVO -- BYU Women's Basketball Head Coach Trent Shippen announced today that he has accepted the resignation of assistant coach Tom Gneiting, effective immediately. Gneiting, who has been an assistant under Shippen the past four seasons, will graduate this spring from the school's Executive MBA Program.

"Tom has been an integral part of our basketball program and the success we've had," Shippen said. "I have known Tom for many years and have enjoyed having him as part of our staff. His contributions will be missed. He has my full support in pursuing his professional goals."

For the past four years, Gneiting has coached the post-players, been involved in recruiting, scheduling, scouting, conditioning and also handled all travel arrangements for the team. With Gneitings' help the Cougar program has enjoyed four successful seasons that including taking the team to two consecutive MWC Championship games and three straight post-season invitations.

"I have enjoyed being a part of BYU's women's basketball program. The past four years have been some of the best of my career. My family and I have been contemplating a career change for quite some time and felt this was the appropriate time to make this announcement," said Gneiting

A Lewiston, Idaho native, Gneiting played on BYU's men's basketball team from 1983 to 1987 gaining All WAC and Academic All Conference citations, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Business Management. The Cougar Club honored him with the Competitor Award his senior year. During his playing career with the Cougars he also played on one NCAA and two NIT tournament teams.

Gneiting also spent nine years playing professional basketball in Spain, Turkey and the CBA. He and his wife Kristen currently reside in Orem with their five children.
