BYU Wins Third Straight, 77-58
PROVO -- The BYU women's basketball remained undefeated this season, handing Gonzaga University a 77-58 loss Friday night at the Marriott Center.
Four of BYU's players scored in double figures in the win, led by senior forward Jill Adams, who finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points to couple 13 rebounds. Sophomore Lisa Osguthorpe came off the bench to fill in for guard Stacy Jensen, who sprained her ankle early in the first half, and collected 14 points and five assists.
Junior forward Caroline Beus also came off the bench to score big for the Cougars, finishing with 12 points, while senior forward Cady Williams scored 10 to go with seven rebounds.
"This was a good win for us," BYU head coach Trent Shippen said. "Our defense overall was good, although it was not our best offensive execution. Lisa (Osguthorpe) in particular did a good job of coming in and filling in for Stacy. It was a good, solid victory."
Guard Holly Bruno led Gonzaga with 18 points, while teammate Melanie Tipps came off the bench to score 14. The Cougars outrebounded Gonzaga, 23-22, and shot 45 percent to Gonzaga's 27 percent.
The Cougars upped their season record to 3-0, while Gonzaga fell to 1-2. BYU plays host next to Idaho State University next Wednesday at the Smith Fieldhouse. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
