Judkins, Team Honored By MS Society
Salt Lake City, UT -- (Sept. 20, 2002) Head Coach Jeff Judkins and the women's basketball team were honored as 2002 Athletic Champions at the 24th Annual Dinner of Champions sponsored by the Utah State Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Thursday.
Judkins was honored as the Sportsperson of the Year after leading BYU' s women's basketball team to its first ever NCAA win and advancing to the "Sweet Sixteen" in his first season at the helm of the women's program.
The Cougar team who compiled a 24-9, 10-4 record, won the 2002 Mountain West Conference Championship title and then advanced to the Round of 16 in last year's NCAA Women's Basketball Championships before falling to Final Four participant Tennessee, were honored as the Team of the Year.
Other honors such as the MS Champion of the Year award, and high school and professional athletes of the year awards were also presented at the annual Dinner of Championships. The Black-tie fundraising event was held at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City.
