Thorn Named MWC Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU senior guard Erin Thorn was named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Monday.

The 5-10 All-American senior from Orem, Utah (Mountain View HS), led the Cougars to a season-opening upset of No. 11 Texas, 79-63, with a game-high 19 points. She hit 3-of-6 field goals, 1-of-2 three-pointers and drained 12-of-13 free throws in the contest. She added six assists, two steals and a blocked shot while playing 36 minutes.

This is Thorn's third overall award. Thorn was also voted as the conference's top returning player and most recently made the "Top Seniors To Watch" list by the Second Annual Senior CLASS Award sponsored by Premier Sports Management. Thorn is one of 30 players to make the prestigious list. Class is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School.
