Second Week of MWC Action

After capturing its first league win of the season, the Cougars enter the second week of MWC play on a five-game winning streak.

The Cougars (10-3, 1-0) host the Air Force Academy (3-12, 0-2) on Wed. Jan. 13 in a 7 p.m. tip with the game airing live on BYU TV. The team then travels to Ft. Collins to battle the Rams of CSU (9-6, 1-1) on Sat. Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.

Player Injury Report

Freshman guard Kim Parker suffered a season ending injury in the game at Weber State. She has torn ligaments in her left foot.

Sophomore guard Jenteal Jackson will apply for a medical redshirt for this year due to an on-going back problem.

AFA - Wed. Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. MST (Provo, UT) - Marriott Center

The Air Force Academy Falcons come to Provo with a 3-12, 0-2 record. In league play their two losses were to No. 25 TCU and to Colorado State. Junior guard Raimee Beck leads the team in scoring and in rebounding with an average of 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Anna Gault leads the team in assists dishing out 5.2 per game and averages 1.9 steals. Head coach Ardie McInelly is in her ninth season at the helm of the women’s basketball program at the Air Force Academy.

A Look Back at the Series during the 2009 MWC Race

The Cougars swept the series against the Falcons during last season’s MWC Race. When playing in Provo, Air Force has not won a game.

CSU - Sat. Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. MST (Ft. Collins, CO) - Moby Arena

Colorado State has compiled a 9-6, 1-1 record to date. In league play, they lost to Wyoming and beat the Air Force Academy. Two players are scoring in double figures for the Rams led by Kim Mestdagh’s 16.7 points and 5.1 rebounds. She’s followed by sophomore forward Chatilla van Grinsven who scores 11.1 points and grabs 6.5 boards per game. Megan Heimstra is the team’s leading rebounder with an average of 8.9 boards per game and she also tops the list in assists dishing out 2.4 per game. Mestdagh has the most steals to date with a total of 28. Head coach Kristen Holt is in her second season at the helm of the women’s basketball team at CSU.

A Look Back at the Series during the 2009 MWC Race

BYU swept the series with CSU during last year’s conference season. The Cougars have a 17-14 record when playing at Moby Arena and have not lost there since a 54-52 defeat on Jan. 15, 2004. That season CSU swept the series over BYU.

After the game in Ft. Collins against CSU, the team remains on the road and travels to Laramie to take on Wyoming on Tues. Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. That game can be seen live on The Mtn. BYU returns home to host two MWC foes. San Diego State comes to Provo on Sat. Jan. 23 followed by a home contest vs. the Lobos of New Mexico on Wed. Jan. 27.
