Two Games At Hilton-Concord Thanksgiving Classic This Weekend
With a 2-2 record the Cougar women will spend Thanksgiving in Moraga, Calif., competing in the Hilton-Concord Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by St. Mary’s. The team will play two schools from the Big Ten Conference.
BYU is slated to play Wisconsin (2-3), Fri., Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. PT, and Northwestern (4-0) on Sat. Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. PT. All games will be played at the McKeon Pavilion.

ABOUT THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN
The University of Wisconsin has compiled a 2-3 record to date capturing wins over Saint Louis and William & Mary. They lost at home to Marquette, 52-66 on Wed. Nov. 24. The Badgers return three starters and eight letterwinners who are coming off a 21-11 overall record last season where they finished third in the Big Ten and competed in the first round of the NCAA tournament. After four games, Wisconsin has three senior players scoring in double figures led by 27.0 points from 5-7 guard Alyssa Karel. She’s followed by forward Tara Steinbauer who tallies 13.5 points and grabs a team high 9.3 rebounds per game. Rounding out the double digit scoring is 6-4 forward Lin Zastrow who puts up 10.0 points and grabs 6.0 boards a contest. Head coach Lisa Stone is in her eighth season at the helm of the women’s program.

This will be the first meeting between these two schools.
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
The Wildcats have compiled a 4-0 record so far this season with wins over Dartmouth, LSU, Western Kentucky and Chicago State. They will play hosts St. Mary’s on Fri. Nov. 26 at the Hilton-Concord Thanksgiving Classic before battling BYU on Saturday. Northwestern returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last year’s team that compiled an 18-15, 7-11T-8th record. Senior center Amy Jaeschke leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 22.6 points and 8.0 boards per game. Brittany Orban, a 6-0 junior forward puts up 13.5 points and grabs 7.0 rebounds a game. The third player who contributes in double digits is senior guard Beth Marshall with her 12.5 points and 1.5 rebounds while topping the list in assists with 19 total on the season. Head coach Joe McKeown enters his third year at the helm of Northwestern’s women’s basketball team.

These two teams have not played each other in 20 years. Their last outing was played on Dec. 22, 1990 when both were participating in a Stanford tournament. In that matchup, Northwestern defeated BYU, 95-75. Their other meeting was two years earlier when the Cougars made a visit to Evanston on Dec. 2, 1988 where the Wildcats won 107-77.
What’s Next
The team will continue play on the road, this time going to Laie, Hawai’i to compete in the Hukilau Invitational which they host with BYU-Hawaii. The Cougars will battle the BYU-Hawaii on Fri., Dec. 3 and the University of San Diego on Sat. Dec. 4. Both games tip off at 2 p.m.
BYU makes a short trip to Orem, to battle Utah Valley University on Dec. 9 before hosting Weber State on Dec. 11 and Portland State on Dec. 18.
