Non-Conference Loss On The Road

SPOKANE -- Playing one of its last non-conferences games of the 2010 season, the BYU women's basketball team traveled to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs and fell 64-91, Tuesday.

"I have to give Gonzaga a lot of credit," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "They did everything right tonight. We really did play a great first half and I thought Mindy, and Coriann both played really well. When things get tough for us we just need to learn to battle through them. I think this is a going to be a good test for us though and will help us as we progress throughout the season."

Senior Coriann Fraughton led the BYU squad with 16 points and six rebounds on the night for her eighth double-figure performance this season.

Teammate senior Mindy Bonham added a 15-point performance with six assists and two steals against the Bulldogs. This game tallied the 49th time Bonham has recorded double-figures in her career.

BYU outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-34 in the game and its bench outscored Gonzaga's 21-13.

The Bulldogs took the lead from the start and would hold it throughout the game.

The Cougars hung with Gonzaga to keep the halftime score at 39-44, in favor of the Bulldogs, but the lead would prove to be too much for BYU in the end.

In the second half, freshman Jennifer Hamson tallied six points in just two minutes to keep the Cougars close but it ended up not being enough. Hamson finished with eight points.

The Cougars will return home to the Marriott Center for its penultimate non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m. against Montana State.

BYU at Gonzaga Post Game Notes

Team

For the fourth time this season BYU had two players in double figures.

The Cougars had 21 turnovers in the game, the most to date.

BYU’s bench outscored Gonzaga’s bench 21 to 13. They also outrebounded the Bulldogs 45 to 34.

Player

For the second straight time, Mindy Bonham scored in double figures for BYU recording her ninth season and 49th career double digit outing with 15 points. Bonham led the team in the assist category dishing out a team high six.

Coriann Fraughton recorded double digits in points with a team high 16, marking the eighth time this year and the 35th in her career that she has put up double figures in points. Fraughton was one of two players to grab six boards in the game.

Despite not scoring any points, senior guard Haley Hall dished out five assists in the game.

Freshman Jennifer Hamson came off the bench to finish the night with eight points and tied in rebounds with six.
