BYU Women At TCU, Host CSU
League play continues this week for the Cougar women’s basketball team. BYU (11-6, 3-0) travels to Ft. Worth to take on TCU (12-6, 4-0) Wed. Jan. 18 in an 8 p.m. CT tip off. The team then returns to the Marriott Center for a Sat. Jan. 22 afternoon matchup with CSU (8-8, 1-2) at 3 p.m.

The Cougars are led in scoring by senior guard Mindy Bonham who averages 11.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Senior forward Coriann Fraughton follows averaging 10.4 points and a team high 6.9 rebounds per contest.
Senior guard Haley Hall tops the assists and steals category with a total of 85 and 37 respectively.
Jazmine Foreman has the team’s best free throw percentage at .824, 28-34 while freshman center Jennifer Hamson is tops in the field goal percentage category at .614, 35-57.

TCU
The TCU Horned Frogs has compiled a 12-6, 4-0 record to date and is in first place entering this week’s MWC action. TCU returns four starters from last year’s squad that went 22-9, 12-4 and went to the first round of the postseason NCAA tournament. Leading the way in scoring for the Horned Frogs is senior guard Emily Carter who puts up 19.1 points and grabs 5.0 boards a game. She’s followed by another senior, Helena Sverrisdottir who contributes 16.3 points and 6.7 rebounds. Rounding out the double digit scoring output for TCU is sophomore forward Starr Crawford who tallies 11.1 points and grabs a team high 9.1 rebounds per game. Leading the way in assists and in steals is Sverrisdottir with a total of 74 and 44 respectively to date. Head coach Jeff Mittie enters his 12th season with the women’s basketball program.

Last Meeting
During last season’s MWC race, these two teams split the series with each team winning on its home floor. The first meeting was in Ft. Worth where the Horned Frogs picked up the 64-40 victory on Feb. 3. Then on Mar. 6, the homestanding Cougar team captured the 70-65 win.
COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY
CSU is in sixth place in the latest MWC standings with a 8-8, 1-2 record. They host UNLV on Tues. Jan. 18 before making the trip to Provo to battle the Cougars on Sat. afternoon. Head coach Kristen Holt is in her third year at the helm of the Rams’s women’s basketball program. On this year’s squad are four returning starters along with eight letterwinners. CSU has three players scoring in double figures led by 16.4 points from junior guard/forward combo Kim Mestdagh. She also grabs 5.3 rebounds per contest. Sam Martin follows with 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds while teammate Chatilla van Grinsven contributes 10.6 points and a team high 6.4 rebounds per contest. Mestdagh leads the way in both assists (39) and in steals (26).

These two MWC foes played twice during last year’s conference race with the Cougars sweeping the series. In the first meeting, BYU won 67-58 in Ft. Collins on Jan. 16. In their second matchup in Provo, the Cougars picked up a 72-54 victory on Feb. 17.
