First Place Remains With Cougars
LAS VEGAS -- Traveling with a four-game win streak, the BYU women's basketball team took their first place spot in the Mountain West Conference to Las Vegas and captured a convincing 79-44 win over the Rebels, Saturday.
"You really have to give credit to our seniors for the win," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "They wanted to win so bad and I didn't even have to motivate them at all today. I'm really proud of how everyone played and I'm excited what these girls can accomplish this season."
The Cougars went on a 16-2 run to begin the game with nine of those points coming from senior Mindy Bonham who recorded a season-high 21 points in the win.
BYU continued on to tally 16 more points while holding the Rebels to 17 percent shooting from the field as they added just 14 more points for a 32-16 halftime score in favor of the Cougars.
Bonham continued to lead the Cougars with eight more points in the second half. Coriann Fraughton scored eight of her 10 points in the second half to add to her 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Kim Parker joined Fraughton and Bonham in double-figure points with 10.
UNLV's last field goal of the game came with two minutes to play. Markiell Styles was the only player in double figures for the Rebels with 13 points and also added 13 rebounds.
The Cougars return home Wednesday, February 9, for a match-up in the Marriott Center against Air Force at 7 p.m.
