BYU Announces Final Women's Swim Team Recruits

PROVO -- With the signing period now complete, the BYU women's swim team has landed 11 talented athletes to begin competition in the 2000-2001 season.

In addition to the six recruits announced last November, the Cougars will look to defend their 2000 Mountain West Conference Championship with five late-signees headlined by 2000 Olympian Hana Majaj. Majaj, a native of Amman, Jordan, will represent her country in Sydney this summer in the butterfly events. The seasoned Majaj is a Pan Arabian Gold Medalist as well as an A student who will look to make an immediate impact on the BYU squad.

Joining Majaj are Rachel Mason, Codi Jensen, Jamie Lambert, and Dallas Bennett. Mason, who hails from Mesa, Ariz., was an All-America consideration and high school finalist in the breaststroke and IM as well as a Junior National level swimmer in the events. Jensen, a native of Carlsbad, Calif., is a Junior National level swimmer as well in distance freestyle, but is versatile, competing in butterfly and IM.

Lambert and Bennett are both former Utah State Champions. Lambert, a Kamas native, won the state 100 breast title all four years of high school and was a state champion in the 50 freestyle as well. Lambert was an All-America consideration and also excelled academically, serving as president of the National Honor Socity. Bennett, a freestyle specialist from Sandy, was a state champion in the 200 and 500 free events and is slated to compete as a distance swimmer at BYU.
