BYU Women Beat New Mexico for Fourth Straight Win
PROVO -- Less than a day after beating Colorado State, the BYU women's swimming and diving team dealt conference foe New Mexico a 123-76 loss Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars were led by senior sprinter Hanalee Hawkins, who captured the 100 back and 200 free events and also led the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish. Senior Valynn Woolley was also explosive, nailing wins in two events as well. Jann Pickens, Jennifer Tasker, and Tina Thompson also picked up individual wins for BYU. The Cougars won 8 of 11 events.
"It's real tough to come back so early the next day from a meet the night before, but our girls did a real nice job today," said BYU head coach Stan Crump.
Quinn Michie and Sandra Colburn were the sole individual winners for New Mexico. BYU's divers did not compete, as New Mexico does not field a diving team.
The win put the BYU women's team at 5-1 for the year, giving Crump one victory shy of 150 career wins. BYU competes in its final dual meet of the regular season next Friday against in-state rival the University of Utah.
