BYU Women Compete in Big West Shootout

IRVINE -- After beating the University of Pacific on the first day of competition at the Big West Shootout on Friday and Saturday, women's swimming defeated the University of California, Northridge, Cal Poly and University of Pacific on the second day of the competition to finish with a 5-3 record at the meet.

BYU also swam against the University of Washington, the University of Hawaii and UC Irvine.

On Saturday, women's swimming finished in second place in the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:34.96. For the 400-medley relay, BYU placed fifth, with a time of 04:03.15.

On Saturday, Melinda Jones placed first in the three-meter diving event, posting a score of 229.85. Rachelle Routsong finished the one-meter diving event in second place, with a score of 223.75.

Shannon Bloom placed first in the 200 free on Saturday, with a time of 1:50.00.

On Friday, BYU came in fourth in the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:38.78. In the women's 50 free, Hannah Palmer finished in fifth place, followed closely by Nichole Tolley, who finished in sixth place.

Fans can watch men and women's swimming compete against UNLV at home on Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. in the Richards Building.
