Cougars to take on Aggies
PROVO -- Coming off a second-place finish at the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri, the BYU women’s volleyball team (2-1) will be back on the road to face Utah State (1-2) Tuesday.
“Personally, it is fun for me to go play up in the spectrum since I was once an assistant coach there,” said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. “They have a great coaching staff and a great team – we look forward to an exciting game.”
Senior rightside hitter Kayla Walker and junior middle blocker Christina Measom earned all-tournament honors at the Tiger Invitational. Walker averaged 3.70 kills and 19 digs per set while Measom averaged 1.90 kills and 0.90 blocks while hitting .350.
The Utah State Aggies are 1-2 on the season after tying for second-place at the 2009 Weber State Invitational last weekend as they defeated Weber State (3-1), and lost to Gonzaga (3-2) and Utah Valley (3-1). USU is led by junior middle blocker Katie Astle who is hitting .333 and averaging 1.92 kills and 0.85 blocks per set, while fellow junior middle blocker Shantell Durrant is hitting .294 and averaging 1.85 kills and 0.92 blocks per set. Sophomore outside hitter Liz McArthur currently leads the team with 3.38 kills per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .165 on the season as compared to a .198 hitting percentage for its opponents.
BYU is 40-14 all-time against Utah State. In the last meeting, BYU tallied a three-set win in Provo on Aug. 29, 2008. BYU hasn’t lost to the Aggies since 2004.
