Parents are Ted and Diane...father has been a television sportscaster in Los Angeles and Dallas...worked out with members of the L.A. Raiders in summer of 1987...recruited by Michigan, Nebraska, USC, ASU, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Navy and Air Force...served a mission to Manchester, England from 1989-91...married to Suzy Maw in July, 1992...majoring in psychology.
Before BYU
Senior class vice president and honor student at St. Francis High...lettered four times in football and once in both baseball and wrestling...all-state linebacker at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, his junior year...moved to Los Angeles his senior year and was chosen all area by the L.A. Times...also All-CIF and All-Del Rey League that same year...coached by Terry Terrezone.
Played with the junior varsity and traveled with the varsity on special teams.
Played well in spring practice and Blue-White game.
Nearly scored a touchdown after recovering a blocked punt at Hawai'i...suffered back-to-back concussions vs. Utah State and Fresno State...rejoined the team in the final game of the season against Utah.
Accidentally spiked Coach LaVell Edwards in spring scrimmage, causing over 20 stitches to coach's shin.
