Personal

Parents are Roland and Mary June...father ran track for BYU in the late 1950s...older brother, Brian, played basketball for Utah Valley Community College...had a 4.0 GPA as a high school senior...served a church mission to Louisiana 1989-90...recruited by Tennessee in track and in football by Arizona State, Washington, UCLA, Stanford and Notre Dame...majoring in physical education and secondary education.

Before BYU

Was MVP at Orem High in football and track and was the school's athlete of the year...was a wide receiver and free safety...helped lead team to 4A championship and was all-state...in track he broke the state record with a 10.96 100 meters as a junior...as a junior he had a wind-aided 21.64 in the 200 meters which unofficially broke the state record...placed second in the 100 and 200 meters in state as a senior...football coach was Tom Rabb (Southern Utah).

BYU Hall of Fame

Freshman Year 1988

Had a 40-yard reception at Hawai'i...had a nine-yard TD catch from Ty Detmer against New Mexico...caught a 41-yard TD pass to give BYU a halftime lead at the Air Force Academy...had a 52-yard reception at Utah.

Sophmore Year 1991

Returned from mission just as spring drills were ending...abandoned redshirt year when Bryce Doman was injured in the Penn State game...in his first game against Air Force caught three passes for 113 yards and was named by the coaches as the receiver of the game...started against Utah State and had a 10-yard TD catch...had a 37-yard rush against Utah...was second unit behind Micah Matsuzaki...caught Ty Detmer's last TD pass in the Holiday Bowl for a 29-yard score.

Junior Year 1992

Competed in both indoor and outdoor track...placed sixth in the WAC Indoor Championships 400 meters in 49.43...outdoors ran 10.58 in the 100 meters, 20.93 in the 200 meters and 46.71 in the 400 meters in which he placed second in the WAC Championships...also ran on BYU's second place team in the 4x100 relay with football teammate Patrick Mitchell...that team qualified for the NCAA Championships at Austin, Texas...was coaches' receiver of the game vs. Penn State and Air Force...earned AT&T Long Distance Pass Play award in the Penn State game for an 80-yard touchdown reception...also ran for a TD in a reverse play against Utah State...had the best yards per catch average (22.6) on the team...had a 35-yard reception in the Aloha Bowl.

Senior Year 1993

Placed fifth in the WAC 200 meters at 20.93, fifth in the 400 meters at 48.62 and was on the winning 4x100 relay at the WAC Championships...clocked a 20.74 in the 200 meters and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
