Born in Bountiful, Utah...parents are Dan and Dawn... brother Lucas is a running back for BYU...recruited by Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State and Boise State...served LDS mission to Houston, Texas...graduated in April 2002 in History with a minor in Spanish...married to Emmalie Madsen in May 2002.

Before BYU

Graduated with three letters in football from Tualatin High...named league Offensive Player of the Year and first team all-state...rushed for 1,810 yards, scored 24 touchdowns and recorded five interceptions in 1993...coached by Craig Hastin (Long Beach State).

BYU Hall of Fame

Freshman Year 1995

Got fourth-quarter playing time Hawaii...played at New Mexico...also played at Fresno for Dermmell Reed and James Dye when they were injured.

Sophmore Year 1999

Played in 10 games ...started against Air Force...had a critical interception in first quarter to stop an Air Force drive and was named top defensive back for the game by the coaches...had 25 tackles on the season including 15 unassisted and 10 assisted...had five tackles in games versus both Wyoming and Utah... deflected two passes against Utah...had an interception during the opening defensive series against Air Force...started in Motor City Bowl versus Marshall...tied for third on team with six tackles against Marshall.

Junior Year 2000

Participated in spring drills ... had two tackles in Blue/White scrimmage ... switched to cornerback during junior season ... started seven games at corner ... recorded 18 tackles on the season, including 14 solo stops ... had one tackle for a loss of three yards against Air Force ... credited with four pass deflections, including a season-high two deflections against Utah.

Senior Year 2001

Started 13-of-13 regular-season games for the Cougars and started at strong safety in the Liberty Bowl against No. 22 Louisville...a member of the 2001 MWC Championship team...helped BYU to a 12-2 record during the season, including a streak of 12 straight wins...earned Honorable Mention All-MWC honors...received coaches awards against Tulane...recorded 59 takedowns on the season, including 40 solo tackles...posted a season-high 10 tackles against Utah...made four pass deflections on the year.
