Born 3/14/78 in Tacoma, Washington...parents are David and Sonia...father was assistant coach at Drew's high school...recruited by Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas, Arizona St., Washington St., SMU, San Diego St., UCLA, Idaho St., Ohio St., Northwestern and Tennessee...high school teammate of Mike Rigell and Michael Westbrook who also signed with BYU...majoring in computer engineering.

Lettered four times in football and baseball and twice in basketball at Lakes High...two time all-state quarterback...two-time Washington State Player of the Year...two-time honorable mention All-American by USA Today...Washington's career passing leader with 9,003 yards and 101 touchdowns...selected as one of 70 players to participate in The All American Bowl East vs. West high school all-star game...coached by Dick Zatkovich (Washington).
Gave up his redshirt year in the closing minutes of the game at Rice and was sacked for a safety...home debut was against Hawai`i...selected by the coaches as back of the game against TCU...was 16 of 26 for 180 yards and three TD passes against TCU...played the entire game at UTEP due to injured BYU quarterbacks...was 17 of 32 for 226 yards and three interceptions at UTEP...had a 55-yard pass completion and a 44-yard pass completion at UTEP.
