PROVO -- Since sustaining a concussion in a collision at home plate against New Mexico on May 6, junior outfielder Kory Knell has done nothing but hit, going 12-for-25 (.480) during the stretch.

"It shook me up a little bit and was a wild experience," Knell said. "Maybe it's been for the best because I've been on a tear since."

Knell's hot hitting helped lead BYU to two more victories against Air Force on Friday in 17-2 and 22-14 victories at Larry H. Miller Field.

The tear reached a climax on Friday as Knell blasted four home runs in the doubleheader, including a grand slam in game two. He came into today with only one home run all season. Knell finished the two games 6-for-10 with 10 RBI.

With the two wins, BYU improves to 26-28 and 16-12 in the Mountain West Conference while Air Force falls to 5-45 and 0-26.

Knell wasn't the only one on a tear in Friday's games. Picking a star from BYU's team in the two blowout victories proved to be a difficult decision since so many of them were available for selection.

One homer behind Knell was Jeff Hiestand who had three on the night, two in game one and one in game two. Hiestand now has eight home runs on the year and finished 5-for-8 with five RBI. In the first game, the sophomore was a single short of the cycle. A few extra feet on his triple off the wall to centerfield and the sophomore would have also had four homers on the night.

Ranger Wiens also came up a hit short of a cycle in game one. Wiens began his first three at-bats with a single, a double and a triple in consecutive order.

Three Cougars knocked in at least four RBI in the first game with Hiestand and Wade Vest both with four. Six of the nine position starters for BYU had multiple hit games. Vest added a 3-for-5 performance in the second game and finished with seven RBI in the day.

Kevin Bills started game two in right field and hit a two-run bomb over the 400-foot wall in centerfield that landed in the street and bounced into the bushes at the Marriott Center across the road. The senior went 4-for-6 in game two, adding two doubles and four runs scored.

Then there was senior pitcher Paul Jacinto who a day after throwing a three-hit victory on Thursday and a day before the senior day, entered game two as a pinch hitter. In his first collegiate plate appearance, Jacinto walked and scored a run and then came up later to deliver a RBI single. The California native hit .450 as a third baseman his senior year at LaCosta High in Encinitas, Calif.

Bryce Searle (2-1) picked up his second win after allowing only one run on two hits through four innings in game one. After allowing a triple in the first and a single in the second, Searle held the Falcons hitless through the next two innings.

Following Searle, J.D Stambaugh (3-0) struck out eight batters in the final three inning to earn his second save. Seven of the eight strikeouts were swinging.

Nathan Hess picked up the win in game two, allowing six runs off seven hits through four innings while striking out four.

The Cougars are now locked as the fourth seed in the Mountain West Conference beginning Wednesday. BYU will face fifth seed Utah at 11 a.m. (PST) on Wednesday. The Utes have lost 13 straight to the Cougars.

"These games against Air Force are preparing us for the conference tournament," Knell said. "That's what we're preparing for now. Our goal now is to win the tournament."

Game five and six of the six-game series with Air Force is Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. KOVO 960 AM will broadcast the game live. The first game is also available as a live audiocast and throught the BYU Radio channel on DirecTV and the Dish Network. Both games will have live stats. Links to the audiocast and webcasts can be found on BYU baseball's schedule page at www.byucougars.com.

A six-game series in Provo with the Air Force Academy beginning Thursday concludes BYU's regular season.

The Cougars (22-28, 12-12 in the Mountain West Conference) will play three doubleheaders in three-straight days against the Falcons (5-41, 0-22). Thursday and Friday's doubleheaders begins at 4 p.m. with the second game starting close to 7 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader is 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This week's series will make up a postponed three-game series between the two teams. BYU traveled to Colorado Springs to play Air Force on April 22-24, but weather postponed the series. The Falcons have had eight postponed conference games this year.

The Cougars are 113-21 all-time against Air Force. BYU is 7-3 in the last 10 games against the Falcons and finished 5-1 against them last year. The two schools first met in 1963 for a two-game series. The Cougars won both games.

Patrick Wells (6-4, 5.65) and Paul Jacinto (2-9, 6.14) are scheduled to get the starts for BYU in Thursday's doubleheader. The Cougars' remaining four starters have yet to be announced.

In its fourth full season at Larry H. Miller Field, attendance closes in on the 100,000 milestone. With three home dates left, the Cougars need to draw 4,998 fans to reach the date this year, an average of 1,666 fans per date. BYU is averaging 1,640 fans per game this year, the highest average in the four-year history. So far this year, the Cougars have drawn 19,680 fans to 12 dates.

The first game of all three doubleheaders will be broadcast live by KOVO 960 AM with veteran broadcaster Brent Norton calling the play-by-play. Saturday's 11 a.m. broadcast is also available on the BYU Radio channel on DirecTV and the Dish Network as well as over the Internet. Live stats are available for all six games. Links to the webcasts and audiocast can be found on the BYU baseball's schedule page at www.byucougars.com.

The MWC Tournament in Las Vegas begins Wednesday, May 26 and concludes on Saturday, May 29.
