Christensen Scores Lone Goal in Laramie

Image

LARAMIE -- For the second game in a row, BYU freshman Kassidy Christensen (Bountiful, Utah -- Woods Cross HS) scored a game-winning goal as the Cougars (13-2-2, 3-2-0) topped Wyoming (7-9-0, 2-3-0) 1-0 Thursday.

The Cougars outshot the Cowgirls 26-10, including 19 shots in the second half. As a team, BYU put 12 shots on goal to Wyoming's three. Sophomore Kelsea Kakadelas took five shots with four on goal, but it was Christensen who netted the only score of the game with only five minutes left in regulation. It was her sixth of the season and third game-winner.

"We created more offense than we have in the last few years, so I think we're moving in the right direction," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "Even though we only scored one goal, our girls really produced tonight. We continued to battle through even though the goals weren't coming."

Christensen's goal was unassisted off a rebound of a blocked shot. Junior Katie Larkin and freshman Becca Riddle each recorded four shots in the game. Senior keeper Erika Woodbury increased her BYU career saves record to 240 with three on Thursday. It was also her tenth shutout of the season.

BYU will host New Mexico on Saturday at 7 p.m. at South Stadium in Provo. It will be the last home match for the team before hosting the Mountain West Conference Tournament Nov. 7-10. Six seniors will be honored for senior night. Two fans can be admitted to the game with one BYU All-Sports Pass.
